In trying to figure out why I like this particulary contry song, I finally came to the conclusion that the upbeat, unabashed, downright jubilant way it's preformed is a huge part of it.
The first verse sounds like it might be a depressing or at least melancholy, song, but then the musical accompaniment kicks in the song is pure joy.
The trouble I have is that I don't know of a way to looking up a song by "Does this leave you with positive feels?" If I look at other song's on the same album (or by the artist in general) ... that's not really getting me what I want.
Oh, and what song was it that that got me thinking, "If I could just take the upbeat country music, I might find myself a fan?"
"We're All Gonna Die Someday" by Kasey Chambers. Have a listen:
Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteThere is fun country music, but this particular song is combo of old-style country/bluegrass, depressing subject matter, and swingy fun music, so that might be trickier...
The two the came to mind first are "Follow Your Arrow" "If the Devil Danced in Empty Pockets."
Also a large chunk of Dolly Parton's catalog, which I recommend in general BECAUSE DOLLY!
I think also other bluegrass artists... maybe Ricky Skaggs?
John Prine, Roseanne Cash... Austin Lounge Lizards?
But there are only going to be a few upbeat songs from that bunch... Whereas if I google "fun country songs" I get some that are great, but mostly a bunch about drinking and partying and big trucks and hot girls...mostly bad songs about those things. Boo.
I like 'it's Five O'clock Somewhere'. My favourite 'aww, just treat yourself nicely' song!
